I have personally had the opportunity to meet Rafe Esquith and spend time in his classroom. I am in awe everytime I'm in his presence. This is a man who is completely dedicated to the education of the kids in his classroom. He arrives at the school every morning by 6:30 a.m. and the first bell doesn't ring for school to start until approximately 8:10 a.m. The students in his classroom are following in right behind him in those early hours because of their hunger and enthusiasm to learn and the classroom doesn't close down until after 5 p.m. I saw dedication and character in Rafe as well as his students that our world is starving for today.
I would recommend all of his books, but he tells me his most recent book is the best book he's written yet, "Lighting Their Fires: How Parents and Teachers Can Raise Extraordinary Kids in a Mixed Up, Muddled Up, Shook Up World" . Personally I love everyone of the books he's written and recommend them constantly. I'm passing along a live interview you can download that Rafe did with a great lady out of the Atlanta area, Pat Montgomery. She does a weekly radio show called Parents Rule . Click on the link and scroll down to the archives dated Sept. 2nd and listen to this awesome interview. Enjoy and be inspired that there are some great teachers out there investing in our children's future. You may also visit Rafe's website at The Hobart Shakespeareans.
